The Municipality of Swakopmund and Erongo RED have formalised a development agreement to co-fund infrastructure in Extension 32, Kramersdorf.
The agreement, signed on Thursday, aims to support the growing demand for serviced residential land in the coastal town.
According to the municipality, the development will unlock 70 single residential erven, eight general residential erven, one institutional erf, and two public open spaces.
Planned infrastructure includes water and sewerage systems, stormwater drainage, semi-purified water, electricity, telecommunications, and upgraded roads with bitumen surfacing and paved sidewalks.
The municipality said that the town council had initially earmarked three Kramersdorf extensions for phased development in 2018, but implementation was delayed due to shifting priorities.
In January 2022, the decision was revisited, and Extension 32, the smallest of the planned sites, was selected for development.
To accelerate the process, the municipality approached Erongo RED for partnership.
While funding discussions were underway, Council advanced planning and design work to ensure the project’s readiness.
Under the agreement, Erongo RED will invest N$14 million in the electrical infrastructure, while the municipality will contribute N$50 million for the rest of the development.
According to the Municipality, the partnership is intended to fast-track land delivery and respond to the housing needs of Swakopmund’s growing population.
