Bornfree Fishing (Pty) Ltd, a youth-owned Namibian fishing company, has donated N$10 000 to the Swakopmund Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (SAADA) Community Outreach.

The outreach event, held on 29 August 2025, focused on addressing substance abuse among young people in the town.

Bornfree Fishing founder, Regto Ndemufayo David, said supporting SAADA was a natural decision decision for the company, which was established in 2018.

David said the company’s roots as a youth-run enterprise gave it insight into the struggles of young people.

“We cannot employ every young person, but we can support initiatives that keep them off the streets and open up better opportunities,” he said.

The company has a history of supporting youth development. It has funded local football and netball clubs, boxing tournaments, educational programmes, and community sports events.

Last year, Bornfree Fishing hosted the Swakopmund Beach Soccer tournament, which attracted hundreds of participants.

The event did not take place this year due to funding shortages, but plans are underway for its return.

At the SAADA outreach, musician Jericho delivered a personal testimony about overcoming drug addiction.

He urged young people to pursue opportunities for a better future. His address highlighted that not everyone gets a second chance.

Bornfree Fishing is now preparing to expand its community work beyond sports.

Later this year, the company plans to launch an aquaculture and urban farming project to involve youth in food security and sustainable livelihoods. It also intends to continue supporting events such as the Swakopmund Mayoral Cup.

For David, who grew up in Mondesa and attended Vrede Rede and Coastal High, giving back to his hometown is central to his work.

“I want the youth to know that it is possible to make it out of Swakopmund, to succeed, and to return home to give back,” he said.

“Charity starts at home, and this is my way of showing that success means remembering where you come from.”

This year marks Bornfree Fishing’s first direct support to SAADA, but David confirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening its role in the initiative in the years ahead.
