Walvis Bay facilitated exports worth N$2.1 billion in February

Walvis Bay handled exports worth N$2.1 billion in February, making it the country’s leading export point.

Other key export routes included Eros Airport, which facilitated goods worth N$1.7 billion, and the Katima Mulilo border post at N$1.2 billion.

On the import side, Walvis Bay remained the main entry point, handling goods valued at N$3.9 billion. 

Ariamsvlei followed with N$2.7 billion, while the Trans Kalahari border post handled N$1.8 billion.

Namibia’s trade with the African continent showed higher imports than exports. 

The country exported goods worth N$4.3 billion to Africa and imported goods worth N$5.6 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of N$1.3 billion. Total trade with Africa stood at N$10 billion.

Exports to Africa made up 65.5% of Namibia’s total exports. Imports from Africa accounted for 47.7% of total imports. 

This means 34.5% of exports went to countries outside Africa, while 52.3% of imports came from outside the continent.

South Africa, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Botswana and Mozambique were the main destinations for Namibia’s exports. Imports mostly came from South Africa, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini and Morocco.

Most trade with Africa was within the southern region. Exports to this region made up 99.1% of Namibia’s total exports to Africa. 

Intra-SADC exports accounted for 65% of Namibia’s total global exports in February.

On the import side, 99% of goods imported from Africa came from the SADC region. Intra-SADC imports made up 47.3% of total imports.

Namibia recorded a trade surplus in food items of N$513 million in February. This was driven by fish exports worth N$1.4 billion and meat exports valued at N$241 million.

Between February 2025 and February 2026, Namibia recorded an average food trade surplus of N$480 million. 

The highest surplus was N$1.1 billion in January 2026, followed by N$868 million in December 2025 and N$792 million in July 2025. No food trade deficit was recorded during this period.
