Windhoek gears up for health weekend

Windhoek is set to host a weekend focused on health, wellness, and community care, as the Well of Hope Organisation rolls out a two-day event offering free services to residents.

The event is a collaboration between the Well of Hope Organisation and partners, including the AFM Restoration Centre, Khomas Medical Centre, Precision Emergency Training, Virgin Active, and several local health professionals.

They aim to improve access to healthcare and promote healthier living in the Khomas region.

“This sounds like the perfect mission of Khomas Medical Centre,” said Sister Chrisma, one of the planning coordinators.

The weekend begins on Friday evening with a Men’s Health Seminar at the AFM Restoration Centre Church, located at the corner of Gladiola and Visarend Streets.

The session runs from 18h30 to 21h00 and is open to men of all ages. Medical professionals will lead discussions on sexual and reproductive health and early detection of cancer and offer a message of spiritual support.

Irene Shaningua, Secretary General of Well of Hope, said, “I look forward to seeing lives transformed through access to vital health services, a word of encouragement, or our presence for someone in need. Events like these are more than programmes; they are moments of hope.”

On Saturday, the programme continues at 07h30 at the same venue with a full day of health awareness and fitness activities.

The event also marks the official launch of the Well of Hope Organisation.

Attendees can join a group Zumba session led by Virgin Active, receive First Aid Awareness training from Precision Emergency Training, and access basic health screenings, including blood pressure checks, provided by Khomas Medical Centre.

Children’s activities include face painting, while music from the Restoration Youth Choir will add to the day’s atmosphere.

“It will be one of the best, most insightful and powerful health awareness weekends in Windhoek!” said Well of Hope member Beatrix Steenkamp.

She confirmed that all activities are open to the public and free of charge.
