The Namibian Police in the Oshikoto Region have reported the death of a woman who was struck by two vehicles after throwing herself in the way of the oncoming vehicles.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday at around 12h30 at Onamulunga Village in the Oniipa district.

According to Oshikoto Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Teopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku, the deceased was drinking with her boyfriend at Onamulunga Coca shops before the incident

“She allegedly threatened to commit suicide because of family issues. She later told the boyfriend that she was going to kill herself by jumping in front of cars driving on the nearby road,” Nashikaku said.

It is alleged that the driver of a Volkswagen, who was driving from Onathinge to Ondangwa, as he passed by Onamulunga Coca shops, saw a cloud of dust on the road behind him, and as he proceeded, he realized he struck a human being with his car.

He stopped to find a deceased who was still alive at the scene.

The deceased was taken to the Onandjokwe Hospital where she was declared dead by the doctor.

The boyfriend said the deceased, who was identified as Helena Lenga, from Onamulunga Village had told him that she wanted to die.

The deceased reportedly attempted to commit suicide before.

Kalompo-Nashikaku said a 29-year-old man with a valid driver’s license was tested for alcohol. He was not under the influence of any substances.

Her next of kin have been informed and the police’s investigation into the matter will continue.
