Youth unemployment must be addressed urgently

A special meeting of the central committee of the SWAPO Party Youth League (SPYL) has been requested to address the rampant unemployment of especially the youth in Namibia.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary of the organization, Efraim Nekongo, a member of the central committee, Willem Amutenya, requested the special meeting.

“The issue of youth unemployment, which has been at our core discussion as a youth league has elevated to a different level in the last weeks. We have seen some fellow youth protesting on Independence Day,” Amutenya wrote in his letter.

He was of the opinion that the situation demands that SPYL fully adjust its political views and programs in response to this socioeconomic issue.

“I am, therefore, requesting an urgent Special Central Committee Meeting to exclusively discuss this issue focusing on the urgent implementation of the brilliant short- and long-term interventions passed by the Policy Conference and the 7th SWAPO Party Congress.

Amutenya said that some of the interventions that need to be reviewed include the over-regulation of the Private Sector.

“We will as a matter of urgency, have to discuss with all agencies and ministries the implementation of some of our proposals to assist the youth we represent,” he said.

He said that SPYL will need to have a robust approach when the organisation engages agencies and ministries about the interventions that were discussed and agreed upon in the past with the various authorities.

“We need to go the extra mile for the youth in this case because the implementation of interventions has been lagging behind and it is not good for Namibia. We must respond timely with sustainable solutions, political stance, and if need be, thrust for the adjustment of the political views of our movement SWAPO,” Amutenya said.

The Central Committee of the SWAPO Party Youth League is mandated to discuss, adopt, review, amend or annul its own resolutions, decisions and recommendations. Moreover, as a Youth League, we serve as an active and revolutionary wing of the Party that ensures the full implementation of our ideology and programmes.
