The Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT) in Arandis will carry out renovations to the town’s community hall and sports stadium following a N$1.3 million donation from Rössing Uranium Limited.
The mining company made the announcement last Thursday during a ceremony attended by local councillors, community members, and stakeholders.
Councillor Rita Hoëses said the project represents a collective commitment to improving the lives of Arandis residents and reflects strong community partnership. She said the renovations are a symbol of hope and progress for the town.
Hoëses commended Rössing Uranium’s corporate social responsibility, saying the investment will strengthen community ties and create spaces for engagement, creativity, and collaboration among residents and youth.
Councillor Cecilie //Hoabes said the town hall and sports stadium play an important role in bringing the community together. She said the renewed facilities will support cultural events, civic discussions, and youth development through sports.
Councillor Risto Kapendah thanked Rössing Uranium for its continued support and called the project a sign of unity and progress for Arandis.
He urged residents to keep the momentum going and work together toward a stronger, more vibrant community.
Rössing Uranium’s general manager for human capital, safety and sustainability, Liezl Davies, confirmed the allocation of N$1.3 million. She said the town hall, opened by Rössing in 1979, is in urgent need of repairs due to years of heavy use.
Davies said the stadium’s budget will focus on addressing key safety issues.
She also encouraged other companies in Arandis to contribute to community upliftment, saying corporate responsibility should be a shared national goal.
The renovation is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
