Hosea Kutako International Airport and Walvis Bay International Airport have been recertified after meeting national and global aviation safety standards. The Namibia Airports Company confirmed that both airports achieved an effective implementation score of 83% following a detailed assessment by the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCCA).
The aerodrome certificates were issued on 5 December 2025 and remain valid until 6 December 2027. The certification confirms full compliance with NAMCAR’s parts 139 and 140 and the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
NAC chief executive officer Bisey /Uirab said the achievement reflects a strong commitment to aviation safety.
“The re-certification of our two international airports is a significant milestone. Maintaining aerodrome certificates is a continuous commitment to raising the bar in safety and operational standards. This achievement reaffirms our dedication to upholding global aviation standards and supports Namibia’s vision of enabling economic development through safe and reliable air transport infrastructure,” /Uirab said.
The re-certification process required major investment in staff training, systems improvement and infrastructure upgrades.
NAC said the work strengthened its safety culture and improved the operational readiness of both airports.
According to the company, the renewed certification sends a clear signal to airlines, investors, and international partners that Namibia’s main airports continue to offer safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
“The re-certification of our international airports, therefore, provides renewed assurance to both international and domestic airlines that HKIA and WBIA continue to support safe and secure aircraft operations. This achievement strengthens airline confidence, enhances operational efficiency, supports route retention and expansion, and reinforces Namibia’s position as a competitive aviation destination.”
NAC said the milestone contributes to broader national development goals by supporting tourism, logistics, trade and investment through reliable air transportation.
The organisation credited the achievement to its strong collaboration with the NCAA and other aviation stakeholders.
“It also underscores the organisation’s long-term commitment to continuous improvement, modern airport development, and fostering a robust safety culture across all its facilities,” the company said.
