Namibia strengthens continental aviation role

Namibia is hosting Aviation Week Africa 2026 this week. The conference is expected to strengthen its role in the continent’s aviation sector.

The chief executive officer and founder of Aviation Week Africa Network, Hellen Ngwira Mwamba, said hosting the event places Namibia at an important point in advancing Africa’s air connectivity.

She said the event gives Namibia a platform to showcase its aviation infrastructure, policies and the wider aviation system.

“This integrated approach reflects the reality that aviation development is not driven by one segment alone, but by coordinated collaboration across the full value chain,” she said.

The event brings together airlines, airports, regulators, tourism bodies, investors, training institutions and both civil and military aviation players.

Mwamba said the benefits will be seen in both the short and long term.

In the short term, Namibia will engage with key decision-makers across aviation, defence and airspace management. This is expected to support route development, infrastructure partnerships and cooperation between civil and military authorities.

In the long term, she said Namibia aims to position itself as an aviation hub where policy, safety and operations are aligned.

“This holistic exposure enhances Namibia’s credibility as a country capable of managing and growing a fully integrated aviation ecosystem,” she said.

The event is held under the theme “Linking Africa: Partners for Growth” and focuses on improving cooperation across the aviation sector.

Mwamba said the event aims to support route development, improve connectivity and strengthen coordination on safety, security and airspace use.

“The goal is to move beyond siloed discussions and enable coordinated implementation across all aviation stakeholders,” she said.

She said the involvement of both civil and military stakeholders will improve airspace management, safety and emergency response.

“For Namibia, hosting AWA 2026 is not just about visibility. It is about shaping a more integrated, secure, and efficient aviation system for the continent,” she said.

She added that the expected outcomes would foster stronger partnerships and improve coordination in aviation development throughout Africa.
