GOOD NEWS:

The Ministry of Mines and Energy of Namibia has announced a decrease in fuel prices.The price of Unleaded Petrol 95 will drop by 80 cents per litre, 50ppm Diesel by 60 cents per litre, and 10ppm Diesel by 70 cents per litre.According to the announcement, the lower prices will be effective from 3 July.In addition to the downward price adjustments for consumers, the ministry also increased the industry margin by 23 cents to 189 cents per litre and the dealer's margin for service station operators by 9 cents per litre to 192 cents per litre. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) of Namibia has announced the appointment of new judges to the High Court, effective from 1 July 2024.The new judges were officially appointed by President Nangolo Mbumba to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the judiciary.Justice Beatrix de Jager joined the legal profession in 2004 and was admitted to the Bar in 2009.Previously, she served as an Acting Judge of the High Court from 16 January 2024 to 16 April 2024.Justice George Coleman has been appointed as an Acting Judge to serve at the High Court from 1 July to 9 December 2024. ECB withholds NORED tariff approval

The Electricity Control Board has withheld NORED’s tariff approval of 6.6% for not submitting audited, up-to-date financial statements for the 2022 financial year.NORED had initially applied for a tariff of 7.7% before the end of May.This was announced by ECB chief executive officer Robert Kahimise today at the announcement of distribution tariffs.Earlier this month, in a push to pay its debt with NamPower, NORED announced that it would start cutting off electricity supply to customers whose accounts have been in arrears for 30 days or more."Non-compliance with regulatory directives shall not be tolerated,” warned Kahimise.The ECB also withheld the City…

MUN secures wage deal

The Mine Workers Union of Namibia (MUN) and Gezhouba Mining Services (Pty) Ltd concluded a three-year wage agreement.The parties agreed to a wage increase of between 6% for the employees in the grades C-1/C2 and 7% for the job grades A-3/B2 respectively until December 2026.The parties also agreed to a 30-minute payable shift allowance for all employees in the bargaining unit.Amongst the other benefits agreed to between the parties, is the continuous training and skills development of employees in the bargaining unit. The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has directed the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) party to return the party's registration certificate.The ECN’s chief electoral and referenda officer, Peter Shaama, in a letter on Monday evening, notified the NEFF that it failed to file the necessary financial statements.As a result, it has been deregistered and its registration certificate cancelled. Earthquake shakes Kalkfeld
