The Ministry of Mines and Energy says that Namibia will be showcasing the country’s investment opportunities in the mining sector at the 2023 Invest in African Mining Indaba, which will be taking place in Cape Town, South Africa from 6th to 9th February 2023.

In its 28th year, this premier event brings together industry leaders, investors, and government representatives to discuss the future of Africa’s mining sector.

“The Invest in African Mining Indaba presents a unique opportunity for Namibia to exhibit her investment prospects in the mining sector to a worldwide audience, while amplifying our commitment to sustainable mining practices. We will also leverage the convening power of the Indaba to connect with potential partners and investors that are crucial to the growth of the sector by adding as much value as possible to the minerals mined, and the attainment of national development goals. This will build resilience in the local economy and contribute to structural economic transformation.” stated the Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo.

According to the Mines Ministry, Namibia’s participation in the 2023 Invest in African Mining Indaba represents a strategic move to solidify its position as a leading jurisdiction in the African mining industry.

The event provides a valuable platform for the delegation to make the case for Namibia’s mining sector to a global audience and reinforce its reputation as a destination of choice for mining investment in Africa.

The country is participating under the theme “Namibia: Securing investments in sustainable mining supply chains”, indicative of the sector’s transition from mainly extractive mining towards creating opportunities for enhanced economic activities in the entire supply chain.

A Namibian delegation, led by Tom Alweendo, will present Namibia’s investment prospects in the mining sector through a series of Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business to Government (B2G) meetings as well as a country case study titled “Investment Opportunities in Namibia” to be held on Monday, 06 February 2023.

The country spotlight will feature presentations by various entities including Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board, Chamber of Mines, and private investors who will share their investment experience in the country.

This country case study, Namibia’s anchor event, will highlight the country’s commitment to promoting investment throughout the entire mining supply chain, showcasing its advantageous investment climate and significant untapped mineral reserves.

In addition to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Namibian delegation comprises entities representing the public and private sector, namely the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board, Epangelo Mining Company, BW Energy, OSINO Resources, Andrada and the Chamber of Mines.

Namibia shines as one of Africa’s leading mining markets, rich in natural resources and a proven track record in the industry. With abundant deposits of diamonds, gold, copper, zinc, uranium, and rare earth metals, essential to renewable energy, Namibia is a top choice for mining investment.

The country’s mining sector plays a significant role in the economy, contributing approximately 9.1% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2021 and ranked among the top 10 in Africa for investment attractiveness by the Fraser Institute Annual Survey of Mining Companies in 2021.
