The Namibian Police in the Erongo Region needs the public’s assistance in identifying the body of a man that was found in the dune field to the east of the B2 Road between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay on Sunday morning.
According to Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba, the head of the Namibian Police’s community affairs division, another man who identified himself as a pastor discovered the body of the man that was dressed in a white T-shirt and is estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old.
Chief Inspector Shapumba added that the pastor went into the dune field to the north of the Narraville neighbourhood of Walvis Bay at approximately 11:00 to pray when he came across the body lying amongst the dunes.
“It is suspected that the deceased person committed suicide by drinking poison that is normally used to kill insects such as cockroaches,” he said.
According to Chief Inspector Shapumba, investigators who attended the scene did not find any identification documents.
Chief Inspector Shapumba requested any person who is missing a family member to contact Warrant Officer Johannes Sinoya at 081 719 0643 or Detective Chief Inspector Johannes Mwatongwe at 081 246 1121 or the Narraville Police Station at 064 219 071.
