Doctor Tshali Iithete, the personal physician of founding President Sam Nujoma, has debunked rumours of his demise that have been circulating on various social media platforms.
“President Nujoma was hospitalised a week or so ago. He has since been discharged and is recuperating well at home,” Iithete reassured the public.
Known as the Father of the Namibian Nation, Nujoma played a crucial role in the country’s independence struggle and served as its first president from 1990 to 2005.
He retired to his farm at Etunda, near Otjiwarongo.
His last public appearance was during the funeral of the late President Hage Geingob in February.
President Nujoma will celebrate his 95th birthday on 12 May.
