Staff Writer Namibia was represented at the Fifth Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour that ended today in Durban, South Africa by the Deputy Minister of Labour, Hafeni Ndemula. This is the first such conference to be held in Africa. The Namibian delegation contributed to the conference deliberations for urgent action to combat the rising numbers of child labour on the African continent and the world at large. Eba Kandovazu A PASTOR from Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West region briefly appeared in the Kahenge Magistrate's Court today charged alongside his assistant. The Pastor, identified as Hamutenya Engelberth (25), and Elia Ihemba (36), were apprehended and charged with three counts of murder and one attempted murder count, following the death of three family members who died on Tuesday evening after the suspects allegedly administered a concoction of methylated spirit, olive oil, salt and vinegar through the rectum. Andrew Kathindi Kavango West has been found to be the poorest region in Namibia according to a multidimensional poverty index report conducted by the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA), with 79.6 percent. After Kavango West, the incidence of multidimensional poverty is followed by Kavango East (70.0 percent), and Kunene (64.1 percent). The two Kavango regions have generally been reported as among the poorest regions in the country over the years. The national multidimensional poverty stands at 43.3 percent. New 213 applicants awarded fishing quota

Andrew Kathindi The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Albert Kawana, has announced that 213 new applications for fishing quotas were approved by the Government. This number represents 71 percent of all the successful applicants. According to the ministry, 298 applications were successful out of the initial 5, 176 submitted in 2018. The main beneficiaries for the quotas are applicants in the Khomas region with 11 percent with Erongo with 9,9 percent.
