Zimbabwe, Botswana victorious at women’s regional championship

COSAFA Media Group C was dubbed the ‘Group of Death’ and lived up to expectations after the results of match day two in the pool at the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Women’s Championship at Dobsonville Stadium on Monday. Botswana showed no mercy against Lesotho as they put three goals past them without reply. The Mares, who made no changes to side that drew 1-1 with Namibia in their opener, showed intention to score early in the first half with Lesego Radiakanyo denied by the defense in the opening three minutes while Obonetse Rathari was struck the woodwork from range a minute later.…

Health Ministry says no to ivermectin approval … as doctors submit petition

Andrew Kathindi The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MOHSS) says it has no intentions to approve ivermectin for COVID-19 treatment. A petition by over 30 doctors was sent to the MOHSS and Namibia Medicines Regulatory Council (NMRC), asking that the drug should receive an emergency approval for COVID-19 treatment in the country. Health Executive Director (ED), Ben Nangombe, and the council's registrar of medicine, Johannes Gaeseb, both confirmed receiving the petition. “The ministry issued a document, a public notice on the second of February about the views on ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19 in Namibia. SME bank – yet another money-loss debacle . . .when will we learn?

When will Namibia learn to guard its wallet better? We allow ourselves to be pick-pocketed far too often. This time, the named culprit is Enoch Kamushinda, a director of the now-defunct SME Bank. But, the real culprits are all who ignored a Bank of Namibia (BoN) warning and still allowed a man with shaky business histories in several countries to have the keys to a bank full of Namibian taxpayer dollars. These people must be named, shamed, held accountable. They should be in the dock alongside their criminal buddy. All who took quiet ‘loans’ from Kamushinda or smoothed the way…

Clifton Movirongo Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) president McHenry Venaani has hit back at the ruling party’s decision to vote down a parliamentary motion tabled by his party on the current “crisis” in Zimbabwe, even before the motion was motivated. “To us, it is a greatest act of cowardice and in a gross disregard of the plight of the people of Zimbabwe. While I do respect and abide to the majoritarian rule tenet that applies to constitutional democracies such as ours, we also do not condone majoritarian rule that defies logic,” Venaani said. The PDM leader hints that instability in Zimbabwe…

COVID-19 testing target only achievable in 5 years

Andrew Kathindi It could take Namibia five years to reach the target of 200,000 tests for COVID-19 if the Ministry of Health’s target of 100 tests per day is the comparative standard. Deputy minister of health, Esther Muinjangue last week said the ministry is planning to execute 100 tests per day in an effort to reach the overall national target of 200,000 COVID-19 tests as announced by health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula in April. At that pace, it will take Namibia just over five years to reach this intended target. This comes as the ministry is still to consider mobile…
