The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) is shifting its focus to digital transformation as it enters its next phase of growth, board chairperson Peter Kruger has said.

Speaking at a Taxpayer Appreciation event in Swakopmund marking NamRA’s fifth anniversary, Kruger said the agency’s first five years focused on building systems and stabilising operations.

“Over the next five years, digital transformation is a key pillar of our strategic execution,” he said.

He said improving customer experience will be a key part of the shift.

Kruger said a dedicated team will lead digital projects, while NamRA will work with revenue agencies in other countries to share ideas.

He praised NamRA commissioner Sam Shivute for his leadership and recognised the role of the founding board in building the institution. He also welcomed the new board that took office on 1 April 2026.

Kruger said the move to digital systems is changing how people and businesses operate, with mobile devices now central to accessing services.

He outlined four steps in digital transformation. These include protecting data, using data to create value, applying it in business processes and turning it into practical insight. He said artificial intelligence is speeding up this process.

He warned that paper-based systems limit progress.

“If information is stored in paper form, it is passive and cannot be applied to influence digital transformation,” he said.

Kruger said younger people are shaping how organisations must operate as they grow up in a digital environment.

He said Africa is ready to adopt digital systems, pointing to widespread mobile phone use.

“Let us take the opportunity and future-fit our country for the digital wave,” he said.
