Momma Oteya has a baby girl

Staff writer

Mother’s Day this year was a perfect celebration for popular Afro pop artist Oteya who was blessed with a bouncing baby girl a month before the popular day. The veteran songstress gave birth on the 1st of April 2020.

Even more interesting, Oteya managed to have a baby on her own birthday!

The former Gal Level queen confirmed the news on her social media posts. We had wondered what Oteya was up to these days. Lockdown is tough, but bonding with a new baby during these times is a blessing. We wish her a Happy Mother’s Day!

Her social media page says, “Hey Fam, I know you’ve all been wondering why I’ve been quiet. I was blessed with a baby girl on my birthday. Her name is Malaika. I would like to take this moment to also wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all the SuperMoms everywhere”.

Fans are encouraged to follow the songstress on social media and stay tuned to her upcoming projects. While no concerts or live performances are possible now, we hope to hear her voice with new music as soon as we can. You go girl!

“Women are very strong beings and have the ability to do anything they put their hearts too,” said Oteya.

Her Facebook bio says:

Oteya whose real name is Daphne Willibard was a member of Gal-Level and is now a solo act. ‘Oteya’ means ‘She’s Coming’ and is derived from her African name ‘Talamondjilaoteya’.

Her sound is upbeat Afrofusion. She released her debut solo single ‘Ethimbo’ which means ‘Its time’ in April 2014.

Oteya is produced and managed by Ogopa-Butterfly, a sub-division of Ogopa-deejays.

As Gal-level and as a single performer, Daphne won many Namibian and African music awards including, Best R&B, Best Group, Best female vocalist, Best female artist of the year, Best Collaboration and Best Album.
