Namibia records decline in HIV/AIDS cases

Helena Johannes The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) says Namibia has made great strides on the issue of containing and preventing the transmission of HIV/AIDS in the country. According the National HIV Prevention Coordinator from the Health ministry, Lylie Ndeikemona, Namibia has since 2002 recorded a significant decreased in infection rates. “The transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother-to-child has also decreased from 13.4 percent in 2002 to only 3.4 percent in 2020, which clearly shows a massive decrease on transmission of this decease,” she said. Andrew Kathindi Namibian medical students in Cuba are accusing the Namibian Embassy in that country of “hijacking” a plane meant to deliver parcels to the students for its own benefits. This comes after a South African Airways plane on Friday 3 July left from Johannesburg to Havana following the request of Namibian students in Cuba for parcels from their relatives in an a believed difficult situation in Cuba. Nam students unpaid in Cuba amidst pandemic

Andrew Kathindi Namibian medical students at the University of Havana (Universidad de Sciencias Médicas) have lamented the non-payment of their monthly allowances by the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MOHSS) amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic. There are 238 students involved in this situation. According to several students at the University who choose to speak out anonymously, they last received a stipend late in March, which was supposed to cover only February and March.
