OTA, NTLA, LPM, Nudo and IPC reiterate Joint Declaration rejection chorus

Kandjemuni Kamuiiri Four political parties and Ovaherero Traditional Authority (OTA) as well as the Nama Traditional Leaders Association (NTLA), have repeated their chorus rejection of the Joint Declaration at a media conference at the Ovaherero Commando Hall. Parliament still to discuss abortion …as matter is postponed to next year

Helena Johannes Parliament has blamed COVID-19 for its failure to debate the issue of legalizing abortion in Namibia despite the matter having been tabled for discussion during the pandemic. National Assembly spokesperson David Nahogandja said Parliament has received two petitions of which one is for and the other against abortion in June this year. “We only sat for two terms this year due to COVID-19, we have not sat as usual to discuss more about this,” he said. Parliament postpones abortion discussion

Writing this editorial the day before lockdown is sobering. What message should this paper’s editors share that has relevance at such a time? Originally, we wanted to opine about the impact of the few new faces in the Cabinet. Analysis of the changes in the Parliament now that there are loud opposition voices was in order.
