President appoints Ombudsman, ECN members

Staff Writer PRESIDENT Hage Geingob has appointed Basilius Dyakugha as Ombudsman with effect from 01 October. The president also appointed Joram R. Rukambe, Elsie T. Nghikembwa and Emmerencia Leonardas members of the Electoral Commission of Namibia for five years, with effect from 16 September. Tujoromajo Kasuto The first ever public interviews in the history of the Office of the Judiciary were held today at the Supreme Court in Windhoek. The interviews were conducted by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). The shortlisted candidates vying for the position of Ombudsman are Secretary to the National Council, Tousy Namiseb; lawyer Ruth Herunga and Chief Legal Officer at the Law Reform and Development Commission, Basilius Dyakugha. Maria Hamutenya Ombudsman, John Walters, is partly blaming Public Enterprises Minister, Leon Jooste, for the current problems the country’s State Owned Enterprises are facing, in particular August 26.
