Bravo to Oshakati officials for repossessing the unused plots hoarded by business entities. Better late than never. Make good on this needed act by putting those plots up for sale to citizens or other businesses desperate for serviced plots for houses. But that is not the story here. Plots held tight for no reason other than ego, fake social standing, and meaningless business plans beg the question of how (not why) businesses were allowed to squat indefinitely on serviced, and un-serviced land with the promise of building houses and they did not deliver. Oshakati, Katima top in new Covid-19 cases

Staff Writer Going by the figures released by the Minister of Health and Social Servives, Dr Kalumba Shangula, on Wednesday, Oshakati and Katima Mulilo appear to becoming the epicentres of the Covid-19 virus. From a total of 237 confirmed new cases, the two towns in Oshana and Zambezi regions had 42 new cases each, relegating the capital Windhoek and Khomas region, which recorded 36 new cases for the day, to third spot. Tujoromajo Kasuto Namibia’s Covid-19 death toll has reached an alarming 3000 and continues to grow at a gradual pace, with the country recording over 1500 deaths in July only. Since the outbreak of the virus up to June 30, Namibia had recorded a total of 1521 deaths. Namibia in record COVID deaths

Staff Writer A record eight people died from COVID-19 in one day, bringing the country’s related deaths to 293, the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MOHSS) announced on Monday. Mental health patients need their medicine

The mental health unit at the Oshakati State Hospital does not have the medicines needed to treat patients. This is disgraceful. Front line medical personnel tasked with helping those in mental distress are under siege. Their patients whose medical needs cannot be addressed are a threat to themselves and their caregivers. This crisis was avoidable. The officials responsible for the lack of medicines needed must be fired with immediate effect for incompetence. People are suffering because of this situation.
