Media should “leave Swapo business alone” – Shaningwa

Tujoromajo Kasuto SECRETARY General (SG) of the Swapo Party of Namibia, Sophia Shaningwa, says the media fraternity should leave Swapo business alone and stop trying to be part and privy to the SGs explicit functions and duties. Shaningwa further points out that her ill treatment by members of the media fraternity is a response to the hostility she has experienced from the media and the allegations they have made about her. However, she remains tight lipped on completion of the party’s headquarters and if whether it will be hosting the Seventh Elective Congress there. “You people are allergic to Swapo…

Ndjarakana dumps SWAPO over genocide

STAFF WRITER THE Executive Director in the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Mbeuta Ua-Ndjarakana, has resigned from the Swapo Party of Namibia. In a letter addressed to party Secretary General, Sophia Shaningwa, Ua-Ndjarakana says he was dumping the ruling party because Swapo has turned a blind eye and deaf ear to the plight of the descendants of the victims of the 1904-1908 genocide in which they lost everything including ancestral land. An estimated 100 000 Ovaherero, 10 000 Nama and an undisclosed number of San people were annihilated in the brutal aggression unleashed on them by German colonisers.…

Shaningwa ignores Geingob’s orders

Staff reporter It is alleged that Swapo Secretary-General, Sophia Shaningwa, continues to defy an order issued by President Hage Geingob to apologise to Okorukambe district coordinator, Frans Murangi, for having removed him from his position in 2017, in place of another candidate despite the ruling party having endorsed his election. The matter arises after Murangi was summoned before the Swapo party politburo earlier this year after being deemed disruptive in the region by Shaningwa. Murangi, however, explained to Geingob that he had been endorsed and appointed by the politburo in 2017 but a delegation led by Shaningwa had instead appointed…

Geingob takes the low road

On Sunday, we were expecting a firm, unequivocal refutation of accusations of any and all links to Swapo from the Fishrot scandal. We didn’t get it. Geingob took the low road. He presented defensive bluster and selective phrasing in his qualified denial that Swapo fingers are in the fish pie. The president of Swapo held his media conference on Sunday where he says people “will not see any money [in Swapo accounts] coming from Fishrot.” The notoriously media-hostile and inarticulate Swapo Party Secretary-General, Sophia Shaningwa, spoke up. She invited “anyone” to contact the Swapo office to access party financial records.…
